Dementia Awareness Course (DAC)
for caregivers of people living with dementia

As part of an international research project, researchers and clinicians in the UK, Brazill, India and Tanzania created a methodology for developing brief educational courses on dementia for family carers. You can read more about this project by clicking CST-International below.

Since their development we have tested these courses out in Brazil, India and Tanzania, with positive feedback from carers. Currently, we are testing out the UK version of this course as part of a doctoral project at University College London.

If you are interested in developing your own course, or would like to be trained as a facilitator, please get in touch below. If you are a family caregiver who would like to take part, we would be delighted to hear from you.

What is the DAC?

The DAC was developed by academics, researchers and clinicians across four countries.

It is a three to four hour one off course, delivered by a trained facilitator. The course consists of three modules:

1) What is dementia?

2) Positive engagement

3) Caring for someone with dementia

The course is designed to be engaging, fun and informative. Carers take part in small groups (up to 6 people) and will have plenty of opportunity to discuss their own experiences with other carers in a supportive environment.
